Buying New Floors? Consider These Questions

One great way to get the flooring answers you seek is to ask yourself some thoughtful questions about what floors will work in your home.

Here are 5 key questions to help you decide:

1. What room is your new flooring going in?

The room and its use will be the first question you need to answer.

  • Not all carpets are a good fit for high-traffic areas - Residential carpets are a great fit for bedrooms.
  • Got kids or pets? You will want carpet with high stain resistance and durability.
  • Tile for rooms like kitchens and bathrooms that will see moisture and need water-resistant or waterproof flooring.
  • Wood for rooms that need easy clean-up or to accommodate a wheelchair/walker.

2. How will the new floor impact your current home design?

Strategic color choices make all the difference.

  • Neutral colors will match the widest range of decor.
  • Lighter colored floor can make the same space seem larger and open.
  • Darker colored floor can pull a room together, and make it feel cozy.

You can always add or remove bold style elements like bright area rugs or quirky, fun furniture pieces to change the feel of a room.

3. How does the new floor coordinate with the rest of the flooring in your home?

Your new floor can complement the overall layout even if it has a different texture or is a new category altogether.

4. Is the new floor easy to maintain and care for?

Ensure you get the most out of your investment with proper upkeep.

  • Solid hardwood floors might need to be refinished over time.
  • Carpet needs to be professionally cleaned at least once a year.
  • Laminate/LVT good choices for active homes and easy clean-up.

5. Are there any additional costs that your new floor may create?

Small costs can make a difference - we can work with you to create a plan.

  • Some flooring products can be installed over irregular subfloors.
  • Rigid hardwood planks will require a precisely flat surface.
  • Will the trim and thresholds need to be replaced once the new floor is finally installed?

These questions are a great starting point to help you choose flooring that balances your needs, wants and budget requirements. Need more advice? Give us a call!

Wall-To-Wall Carpet or Tiles?

As the standard for most smaller residential projects, wall-to-wall carpets come in large rolls that run from one end of the room to the other. With fewer joints, vast and ranging designs can be specified like Superior 1020 by Vorwerk. With less waste, however, projects that utilise carpet tiles also benefit from a reduction in maintenance costs – one spillage means replacing one tile, not the whole room. While instead of a pattern-matching nightmare, the tiles can even become part of the design, as with the Fluid& carpet tiles by modulyss.
